A Conversation – Eileen McCabe and David Ellis on Colour Personality Profiling ®(Atlantis Colour)

Colour Personality Profiling. A recent conversation with David Ellis about Colour Healing and Chromotherapy expanded into an in-depth discussion about colour personality profiling. Revealing your truth from within. We are once more in the opulent setting of the Lyrath Hotel, Kilkenny. Which is very apt as the reflection of Colour in the surroundings are emulated by a fiery sun. The perfect setting to discuss colour personality profiling!

Has Colour Personality Profiling been around for a long time?

“Not as long as Colour Healing, it began in 1947 with Max Lüscher from Basel, Switzerland”. David explains, according to Wikipedia.  Lucher created The Lüscher color test. Max Lüscher believed that sensory perception of Colour is objective and universally shared by all. But that colour preferences are subjective. That this distinction allows subjective states to be objectively measured by using test colours. Lüscher believed that because the colour selections are guided unconsciously. They reveal the person as they are, not as they perceive themselves or would like to be perceived.

Also, in 1978, Dan Lowery created “True Colors”. A personality profiling system initially designed to categorise at-risk youths, basic learning styles. Using the colours orange, green, gold and blue to identify the strengths and weaknesses of their personality types. True Colors have been a fantastic success, with users from private, corporate, government and global multi-nationals.

How can you extract a personality trait from a colour choice?

“It is simple, says David, as he smiles impishly. (it is not so simple, is the honest answer. But when you train to perfect a craft, that craft becomes simple). I establish what a persons favour Colour is and also what is their least favourite Colour. Then I add the traits of each Colour to each side of the equation in a positive and negative opposition.

An example of a person with Red as their Favourite Colour. I look at the qualities of the colour choice. In this case, it is red, and those properties are as follows. Gravitation towards Addiction. Very Alert, Easy to Anger. Leans towards Arrogance. Gravitation towards Aggressive. Competitive pers., Can be Compulsive. Contraction, limiting or shrinking. Dynamic and Energy. Entrepreneur Potential. Excitable and mainly Extrovert. Easily Frustrated. Grounded and earthly, Hardworking but Intense. Loves Life and Passion, and always seeks Pleasure. Powerful and Primal, Raw instinct. Realistic ideas and goals. Needs Security. Very Sexual, Very Stable, Full of Stamina. Inner Strength, Very Structured, Tribal and Family loving, Full of Vitality, Strong Will Power”.

What if the least favourite Colour is Red?

“Then almost the opposite applies. However, one must also consider the opposing Colour. For example, if a person has Green as favourite Colour and Red as the least favourite Colour. One must look at the mix and extract the information based on both traits. However, in this case, we are discussing Red being the least favourite Colour.

Here is an example: A fear or avoidance of Addictive substances, Not so Alert and Slow to Anger. Fears Arrogance and avoids arrogant people. Gravitation towards Submissive tendencies. Is not a Competitive person. Does not show indications of Compulsive behaviour. Not Contracted or limited, but expansive in their thinking. Not over Dynamic or Energy. More of a follower than a leader. Hard to get Excited and mainly Introvert. Very Patient and not easily Frustrated. Not very Grounded a little away with the fairies. Good worker but not Intense. Lacks the love of Life or Passion for life. Not a  Pleasure seek. Can be weak. Never Raw but always considerate. Can be unrealistic with ideas and goals. Very Secure in themselves but not over  Sexual. Can be unstable, Not full of Stamina, Unstructured, Not overly connected with Tribal or Family, No Will Power”.

“You can see from this simple demonstration, the properties can be positive or negative, depending on the context”.

“An interesting paradox on this subject is with clothes, especially women. I have asked many women What their favourite Colour was. Many women would reply. ‘Oh, my favourite Colour is yellow but, that’s weird. I’ve never had a dress in that Colour.’  So they are truthful about their Favourite Colour. But then doubt their answer by qualifying that they never had a dress that Colour. Therefore, that cant be my favourite Colour. This is a typical scenario when the head joins the debate, which was started by the Heart. The Heart NEVER lies”.

If someone tells you that their favourite Colour is Yellow and their least favourite Colour is Lemon? Are they not the same Colour?

“Great question, yes they are, and no, they are not. This kind of scenario is when a person subconsciously does not want you to know anything about them. The solid Colour they choose, say Yellow, more than likely is their favourite Colour. But you cannot construct a colour profile with only half the equation. The chances are that some part of the Lemon is their least favourite Colour. Perhaps the White element, but in truth, when someone gives me a colour selection like this. I cannot construct a full analysis. I could perhaps work on the basis that their favourite Colour is Yellow and their least favourite Colour is White. Then construct my analyse on that basis, but it is not as accurate as I would like it to be. But id does tell me, they are hiding something from me, subconsciously”.

“It is similar when I ask clients what's your favourite and least favourite Colour, and they reply. Oh, I; love all colours, and I don’t dislike any. This is a clear indication that both consciously and subconsciously, they do not want me to know anything about them. In this case. I have nothing to work on, other than that the person does not want me to know anything about them. So all I conclude is, they are hiding a lot from me, consciously”.

What benefits can colour profiling have?

“As a therapist, I use Colour personality profiling to identify the personality type of my client. I can do this quickly as the colour choice will also indicate the areas in which they may need help and healing. Example: A client presents with Blue as the least favourite Colour. However, in our consultation, the client tells me that Blue used to be their favourite Colour. I immediately know there is an issue with the Throat Chakra”.

“As a businessman. I use Colour personality profiling at interviews. Or at business meetings to gain valuable insight into potential employees as well as business partners and associates”.

Do you use Colour personality profiling in your Restaurant & Retail Business?

“Yes, I do, and it works well. My management is also now on board with this modality in interviewing and forms part of the interview technique”.

“When I introduced colour profiling in my other business, my management team were not happy with it. They did not believe a personality profile could be constructed by choice of colours”.

“An interview was conducted with a potential assistant manager. The candidate was very well presented. Had all the right answers. But their colour choice made no sense to me as the candidate portrayed a set of opposite characteristics to that of the colour choice. I was against the candidate being employed. My management team, on the other hand, were all in favour”.

We agreed. If the candidate were successful in their trial employment, we would not use the CPP. However, if the candidate displayed the characteristics that I expressed my concerns about. The CPP would become part of the interview process”.

“My team were delighted and hired the girl. I cringed in terror and waited for the chaos to unfold, and unfold it did. Within only three weeks of engagement, the new employee created absolute mayhem. She left of her own accord. Claimed her employment was terminated unlawfully and took us to the labour court and won!”.

You mentioned that you had created a new Colour Personality Profiling system. Tell me about that?

“Yes, I have created a Colour Personality Profiling solution. I named it Atlantis Colour, which embraces all colours, not just the four colours as Max Luscher worked with or Dan Lowery. There is so much vital and viable information contained in all the choices of colour”.

“For me, the real essence about Atlantis Colour is that this is the profile or picture of the person within, the real person. These are the true characteristics of that person. If you are running a business, seeking a business partner, or investor, this tool allows you to determine if that person fits your role or if the role itself fits the candidate. If you are seeking a relationship partner, this tool can help identify if that person would connect well with you”.

Do you use the Atlantis Colour system with your Therapy clients?

Colour profiling is an essential tool in every aspect of my life. I use the technique in every way possible. In healing, it gives me a rapid insight into how my client is and how I can help quickly and efficiently.
